  1. When does the application open?

Monday June 1, 2026, at noon.

  1. When will the 2026 MOS application close?

Monday, July 6, 2026, at 5pm.

  1. How do I apply for the Mayor’s Opportunity Scholarship (MOS)?

Access the scholarship application on the MBSYEP website- summerjobs.dc.gov. Navigate to the Scholarship tab. You will first need to create an account before applying for the scholarship.

  1. Click the Individual Application button
  2. Select apply
  3. Select register to create a new account
  4. Select the Individual Button at the top of the page
  5. Complete the blank fields to create the username and password
  6. Click Submit

        You are now ready to begin your application.

  1. Click Apply
  2. Select “+Begin New Application”
  3. Name your 2026 application (for example: 2026 MOS Application)
  4. Save & Apply
  5. Select “Questions” button at top of page to begin.
  6. Applicants will Select questions in order 1-15 and click Save after responding to each question. Questions are visible on the left side of the screen. (Applicants will respond to every question. Question 12 and 15 require applicants to upload documentation).
  7. Submit Application once completed.
     
  1. When will I receive my decision?

Decisions will be sent the week of August 3, 2026, to the email address on file.

  1. I am not yet 18, can I apply?

If you are 18 by December 31, 2026, you may apply, or you have been accepted into a post- secondary institution.

  1. I have not been accepted into a post-secondary institution at time of submission; can I still apply?

You must be able to provide proof of acceptance into a post-secondary institution at the time of application submittal.

  1. If I am choosing between several post-secondary offers, can the scholarship be sent directly to me?

The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the accredited post-secondary institution indicated on the MOS application. Scholarship funds will not be sent directly to the awardee.

  1. What happens if I cannot attend the Fall 2026 semester, and I have been awarded the Mayor’s Opportunity Scholarship?

All recipients must be enrolled and attending their post-secondary institution in the Fall of 2026. Termination or withdrawal from your post-secondary institution will result in forfeiture of the Mayor’s Opportunity Scholarship.

  1. I am no longer participating in MBSYEP 2026, may I still be considered for the Mayor’s Opportunity Scholarship?

All applicants are evaluated based on attendance and participation in the 2026 MBSYEP program. Those who are not participating in the program for the current year are not eligible to receive the scholarship.

  1. Can I complete the application on a mobile device?

We recommend that the Mayor’s Opportunity Scholarship application be completed on a computer or a laptop.

  1. I received the Mayor’s Opportunity Scholarship last year, can I apply?

Yes, participants that applied for and received the Mayor’s Opportunity Scholarship last year are eligible to apply this year.

  1. How many letters or recommendations do I need?

 You must upload two letters of recommendation. Recommendation letters can be from anyone that is not a family member.
